Seriously...

Site News
I could list hundreds of excuses: I’ve been juggling a job plus going to seminary, I want what I post to meet a certain quality, I’ve been judged by people too many times for sharing my thoughts and when I have some down time it’s really hard for me to force myself to sit down at a computer and write. The bottom line, however, is that I just haven’t kept this site very fresh and I certainly haven’t been active on my own forum, despite the fact that you guys have posted some interesting topics.
Starting next week, joshcrain.com will be receiving some minor changes that will lead to an entire site overhaul by the end of October or November. There are a lot of reasons for this and several changes we’ll be making:
- I can only stand looking at one site design for so long, so we’ll have a complete redesign in place by the end of the time frame.
- The current software I’m using to create this site, while it looks nice, has some problems: it takes too much work to update blog entries, the html code it produces is sloppy, and it isn’t easily searchable by Google and other engines, making my site more obscure than it was when it was ugly.
- Some parts of the site need to be streamlined and desperately need updating. We’ll be combining the “Theology” and “Journal” sections into one section titled “Blog” (snazzy, isn’t it?). We’ll also be launching new podcasts and we’re hopeful to put a few videos up (fingers crossed).
- Forum spam. There have been bots trolling my forum like crazy, signing up fake user accounts. I haven’t allowed anyone to join in almost 3 months because of not knowing who is real and who is a bot. This has stifled discussion and frustrated me to the point of not even using the forum anymore. Because of this, I am shutting down the forum and will be implementing a user comment system on each thread. I realize we’ll lose a little something by doing this, but it’s just not worth the hassle anymore. I will, however, archive the old forum in order to preserve the many discussions that have taken place there.
Hopefully you guys will bear with me. With an easier site to update, I should be able to post more often and use this site as the ministry I envisioned it to be when I first started it. So far it’s fallen fall short of that because of a lack of attention and updates.
